Title: Turkey Hunting Show suggestions
Post by: kytrkyhntr on January 18, 2020, 01:47:17 PM
I do not have cable or anything so most of my "TV" that I watch as far as hunting goes takes place on YouTube. I watch Dave and Pinhoti Project religiously as that is my favorite and I catch the hunting public guys episodes as well. Are there any others I'm missing? I don't care to watch deer hunting but any good turkey hunts I'm all about.

I'd try and locate some of the original Primos Truth videos.

Man no joke. Not the commercialized stuff now but the old ones would be cool, I've messaged some on here before trying to get them but something always falls through !

Calling all turkeys is great. Shane does a great job at self filming. His show is actually my favorite.

Watching a ton of Pinhoti at the moment. THP of course has great stuff as well. Also watch Catmans channel.

The old Knight and Hale spring videos are on YouTube. Not all of them but a handful. They're not bad. They throw some tips in there too.

There's not a lot of great, turkey hunting channels out there (trust me, I search for them often  ;)) but I'm sure that will change as more people start filming their hunts. I do have a few channels that I subscribe to and enjoy their turkey content.

"The Hunting Public" would be at the top of my list. Video quality is top notch and although not all of them are "killers", they do work hard, succeed often, are enjoyable to watch because they're having fun and they one can learn a lot from their videos.

"Pinhoti Project" is definitely a channel that any serious turkey hunter should subscribe to. Dave knows his way around turkeys and the turkey woods, a true expert in his field. Although the video quality suffers here and there (that should get better as time goes by), he makes up for it in his ability to consistently get it done on public land.

"Catman Outdoors" is fun to watch his simplified approach to turkey hunting. Usually just him, his gun and a wingbone call (that he makes himself) and I really enjoy watching and hearing his decision making to each situation/hunt.

"Claycomb Outdoors" would round out the list of turkey hunting shows that I watch. Chad does a great job capturing each hunt on video and editing it for our consumption. A lot of his hunts are on public land also and I just enjoy watching hunts on properties that any of us, in theory, could hunt if we wanted to.

BTW, thanks to you guys that mentioned my videos. I appreciate it!

Thats right! Hunt quest! I forgot about that one! I don't watch that one too often... don't get me wrong I think Scott Ellis is an amazing Turkey Hunter and a Master caller, but the video quality is a little rough. Still good stuff though.

In particular order, my favorites are:

Pinhoti Project
The Hunting Public
Calling All Turkeys (Callie Chronicles is really good, too...deer/deer tracking)
Claycomb
Catman Outdoors

I watch some others from time to time, but I watch every episode of the ones listed here...many times more than once. I especially like Dave's reworked videos on Pinhoti where they break down reasoning behind what they are doing.

Spring Thunder is another one that can be tough to watch sometimes but at least you get to hear birds gobble.

There is a lot of stuff out there that I can watch a little of, but not many that I can watch a lot of.

I'm the same as most:

Pinhoti
The Hunting Public
Calling All Turkeys
A few other random shows

I've not watched Dave's breakdown stuff, just the hunts.
I have to skip some of the THP stuff.  I'm all for having fun, but don't do the slapstick stuff very well. That's the whole reason I gave up on the later Primos videos.....too much stupid.
I've not watched Shane's dog trailing stuff.  Probably good for those folks that are into it.

While it works in the YouTubers favor dollarwise, the natural progression of most shows seems to be a goal of increasing followers to increase revenue, requiring an increase in content.  There's only so much time to hunt so some eventually start breaking one show into two, showing way to much downtime, talking more about sponsor products, showing everything from mowing their lawn to cheerleading with their kids.....it goes on and on until I start skipping through to only hunting content or skipping all together.......but maybe that's just me.   I suppose everyone needs to make some cash to keep hunting.  As I said, it's a natural progression.

I don't fault them for it.  I'd like to pay for hunting by hunting, but I chose my path a long time ago.  Hopefully some of those that I like stay within reason.

I'd never seen NW Spurchasers before, thanks for the heads-up.  You don't find too many folks with a passion for turkeys out here.

Ditto.  As for the show choices, I choose mine based on the way they hunt.  If they are HUNTING turkeys, I watch them,....if they are just SHOOTING turkeys or otherwise just using turkeys for target practice, I don't.
