Should you bend mouth calls a little to get them to fit better or will that affect the tension of the latex and change the sound?
I always bent mine and never had any problems

THIS! I started doing this a few years ago. It makes it more comfortable in my mouth and it's easier for me to purr on since it sticks better to the roof of my mouth, which allows for less tongue pressure on the call for the purr.
It's all about whether bending the call changes the sound enough so you are not satisfied with it. If you bend it and it doesn't sound good to you, either bend it back straight again or go to another call type until you find one that you can bend to fit and still have the sound quality that suits you. Third option is to make slight modifications to the bent call to achieve the sound you want.
I have to bend all of mine.
I think all of my mouth calls bend slightly with repetitive use. To me it makes them sound better as they become more comfortable to use.
Bending a bunch of calls has improved them for me. Bend away.
Don't do this with H.S.Strut ones that have plastic frames though...lol.

Are they even still making those? I never could get comfortable with using those calls,...or understood the reasoning behind making them out of plastic like that. I suppose there are some folks that really like them, though.

That is certainly a possibility depending on the call. You can always bend it back if that happens. The opposite is true, as well. There are some calls that can end up sounding better if you bend them. The point is, don't be afraid to experiment with your calls.
No two mouth chambers are created equal. I have a very narrow pallet and run some of my calls bent and without tape. I sometimes bend them so much that the latex is lax, but because of the narrow pallet there is enough space between the reeds and the roof of my mouth to still produce quality sounds. Don't be afraid to try it. I know some people that actually bend the frame the opposite way, creating more space between the mouth roof and reeds. Anyone that tells you they know exactly what the best calls and best recipe is for you, is not being truthful. Everyone has their own recipe, it takes a lot of time to figure out what is right for you.
