Title: Wormy calls
Post by: Zobo on February 24, 2023, 10:26:56 PM
There's something about calls made out of wormy wood that's quite appealing. Spalted or very knotty woods too, unique, interesting calls with plenty of character. In most other cases these woods would be considered defective, but not for us turkey hunters. Post some of yours favorites or maybe describe them if you can't post a picture.

I've got a snakewood over wormy chestnut short box by Ed Terefencko. I also have a wormy black and white ebony pot call from John Sinclair.
I bet those are nice. If you need help loading them let me know and I will try to help.

They would be cool to see, wormy BW ebony is not too common I'm thinking.

Brad Roberts Wormy Black Limba Bronzed Glass over Aluminum.

The worms brought out some crazy orange coloration in the Limba streaking and where the worm holes tunneled through the wood. This call sounds better than it looks, which says a lot. It's easily one of the best pot calls I've ever played, and paired with Jeff's carbon she can whisper or she can scream.

Here's a few others.

Watkins Macassar over Spalted Apple fiddle and Bloodwood over Spalted Apple fiddle. I don't think there are many if any others out there in these combinations.

And here's a Fulkerson Ironwood over Spalted apple hen box along with a TJ Johnson spalted granadillo over sycamore fiddle.
