I am looking at putting together a slate over glass call. What are some recommendations for a good wood for the pot?
Padauk, walnut, wenge. :z-twocents:

walnut
Use what you like, not what someone else likes.

Sound-wise, I don't hear a huge difference, so I usually opt for the cheapest I can find when I'm making them. That usually ends up being Poplar.
Walnut.
The more figured, the better.
Red Cedar. White Oak is great if you want a slate that is higher pitched and loud.
Walnut for medium pitch and maple for a little higher pitch for me. Can change everything with the striker, too.
hard to beat straight grain walnut ,cherry ,cedar or maple
I have a old CANE CREEK Slate over Glass. Poplar Pot. Called in plenty with it the last 20 years.
