Same here, though I think I live just a couple of counties from Greg. Good thing I bought a few boxes of heavyweight7 for  the 20ga. 3 years ago.

There have been ammo panics in the past, but not like this one.  Even hunting ammo and cheap shotgun target loads are hard to find.

Yeah..........   Not so sure this one is going away any time soon.   I think peppy have realized what it REALLY IS we have going on in DC now.   And they're scared stiff.    Probably should be.

I've posted this before, but somewhat ironically, the only ammo one can consistently find in SE MN are Turkey loads. For ex., the local Scheels and Fleet Farm are currently out of all pistol ammunition, and their selection of rifle ammo is limited to a few odd ball calibers and some .556 rounds. But both stores maintain a decent supply of Federal TSS and Winchester Longbeard shells.

They had Federal TSS 3.5" 9's at Field and Stream In Chesapeake, VA for $65 a box.  They would definitely have been the most expensive shells I'd ever purchased.

I agree pickings are really slim at this point.  I buy year round and have a good stockpile. Frankly, enough turkey loads to last my lifetime. ;D

Last time I looked you can still find about any ammo you're looking for on Gunbroker. You will pay a premium for it though.

Don't even have dove loads on the shelf here. I've got boxes of turkey shells that didn't pattern for me which I'll give to some friends this spring who can't find shells.

Nothing available here in SW Georgia for the past several months. Certainly no rifle or pistol ammo. Occasionally there are 16 ga and 28 ga shotgun shells available, but very little else.

Got lucky and found some turkey loads at wally world in GA while down there. They had 5 boxes stuffed in the back of the shelf below some hunting clothes. Picked up 2. I only had 2 shells left at this point. Had been looking for about a month before the trip.

I've been finding a few "here and there" in my work travels, but I haven't found what I want.  I've found Winny grays, DoubleX, Rem Nitro, and B&P.  Some of you must have freight containers full of Longbeards.  Those things are like Bigfoot...you hear about them but you can never see them. .  :)

It's crazy.  I'm good for now on 12 gauge ammo, but was seriously looking to buy a 20 gauge but not till I feel comfortable I can get ammo for it.

I'm seeing some Turkey loads in various stores. Lot of mixed brands that have been picked over. I feel that with the current political situation this could be a longer dry period then experienced before. Hopefully Remington or whomever has taken them over will start producing agian.

Share the bounty as we are all in this together and remember to vote next election. I have to wonder: do democrats own guns and ammo? Are they affected by the shortage? Do they care? Seems to me they could care less about their rights being legislated away.

Our local Academy and a local gun range and store a buddy of mine owns in Tallahassee (Talon Range) are limiting ammo purchases when they get them in (the range only allows members or range customers).  Neither are price gouging.  I will buy all my ammo in the future from one of those 2 (if this ever ends).  I will not buy it from any of the outfits that are marking it up just because they can.

I bought 10 boxes of HW #7 when it was rumored to be ended.  Already had 5 boxes.  I am set for life on 20 gauge for me and daughter and likely for my grandson too - unless he finds it when he is 16 and shoots skirrels with it.  He better run, cause I will chase him around with my walker if he does that!

This will be my first season using a shotgun for Turkey. Started looking for 12ga. 2 3/4" in February, it's been an eye opener to say the least. Luckily co-workers from surrounding areas have been able to help me out, so I returned the favor when I happened to be at the local farm n barn store the day they got some 9mm in. Then I bought a 20GA. over/under and ran all over that day looking, found Longbeard XR #5 and paid WAY too much for 1 box of target load so I could at least try my new toy. Walked in to a local outdoor store this week and found 3 cases of Winchester 20GA. Target loads, for a sensible price-couldn't grab one fast enough. I soon realized I'm not going to allow this situation again, I will be stocked up in the future!

One thing that scares me about this turkey ammo shortage, is some people are buying turkey loads of some kind, because they can't find what they are use to hunting with in the passed and just going turkey hunting without even patterning that shell... i hope we don't end up with bunch of cripple birds or birds that are not found..

Around me the Ammo is being bought for resale in many cases. It shows up at the flea market and other places for lots of money. Not saying lots of folks aren't buying scared but I have witnessed organized groups buying ammo even with the purchase limits. Thier sole purpose is to re-sell at higher prices based on my discussion with them.
I support free markets so its worth whatever they can get and props to them for being innovative and resourceful. It will find a leveling point in the future as ammo producers catch up to demand and the demand is satisfied.

I'm seeing the same thing with ammo here in southern WV.  I shoot a .22 quite a bit for critter control. The CCI Suppressors in my old Marlin model 25 is a deadly combination BUT, those are SUPER hard to find. I think I've partly solved that problem by buying a Gamo Swarm Whisper .22 caliber adult air rifle.  Shot it for the first time today and DANG was I impressed. I know those .22 caliber pellets are a heck of a lot cheaper than .22LR ammo and this Gamo really packs a punch and will do the job until regular ammo becomes more available.

Luckily I have enough turkey shells but it's looking bad for my new 6.5 PRC... Hard to find em for less than 7-8 bucks a round. I'm having a hard time getting any reloading supplies right now too.

When the smoke clears and I believe it will, I suggest getting into reloading.

Imo - Even when available few were doing much patterning because of cost.  Yes this will compound the problem.

As of a few minutes ago a company
targetsportsusa.com
had Federal and Browning tss
available for around $9.00 per shot. Looked like 12
and 20.  No .410
Guy from a Florida forum tipped us off.

Update - 20 may have sold out.  Seem to have lots of 12.

Federal can be found here (South MS), Winchester XR is like finding a Unicorn. I was in VA for spring break. Sportsman's Warehouse had 12 gauge 3.5 and 3"#5 2 box limit, sold out within a day. Still had Federal TSS.... Just saying....

Good luck everyone...

Looking for more federal 10 ga hw7 , there was plenty all over just a few weeks ago ...now gone , probably for good, I have plenty of it , I just figured ill get a few more

I am concerned about when the waterfowl  season starts that people will be in "toilet paper mode" over buy and cause a severe shortage

I've got a feeling that when WF season starts, you're going to see plenty of "steel" being used in places where the GW doesn't show up. Something tells me that there's going to be plenty of dove loads being used to take down the larger birds.

As for turkeys, if one chooses to use the 12 ga, a stiff load of 6's from a 2-3/4" shell will be fine at shotgun ranges. But, that's not what we want to use. It's just not "sexy" these days.

then why is the only turkey ammo i've seen for 3 months been only tss loads? my local ace hardware had longbeards for about 12 hours

I think we are in toilet paper mode on steroids...It will come back, but not as fast as crap paper. I was in the gun shop and heard a guy asking for turkey ammo, 20g because his son had decided to go. They didn't have any and he sounded desperate to find some. I had 2 boxes in the truck of TSS 20g....couldn't take it, so I sold him one of mine. I just put myself in his shoes, if it was my son. Do unto others!! Good Luck.

!2 gauge steel waterfowl ammo was already out of stock nearly everywhere. I found 10 gauge was still available, so i made sure to get some more so i would have no worries this fall. I am sitting good on ammo, i always bought a box or two  of this or that, whenever there was a good sale on. They were practically giving it away,  before the corona and election gave us the one two punch full on shortage.Looks like the salad days are officially over, at least for the next 4 years.

Guess I'm not sure how the question relates to my post in the end. I was simply stating that if push comes to shove, someone could use 2-3/4" loads to kill their turkeys. Doesn't have to be 3", tss or any of the stuff we view as "turkey" ammo. I've killed them in the past while squirrel hunting with lead 7.5's. Just throwing it out there.

Watched a video yesterday from Remington on the ammo plant in  Arkansas The manager explained the shortage was due to not being able to get the primer component accelerant from Australia which apparently in now over, hiring and training staff. He said the "Big Green' is now in full production 24/7

It's def the issue with the printer components from Australia. That's the whole issue right now.

Obviously all the former toilet paper hoarders have now transformed into shotgun shell hoarders. Good going guys.

Perhaps if you have more than a five year supply or so you should let some others have a chance. Just sayin. Winchester et al aren't going out of business.

Thinking about this a bit further. Regarding how many shells you need. If you need more than, say,  on average more than two shells for every turkey you bag you'd better work on your skills...whether shooting, distance judging, excitement or whatever. Personally I've killed more than a few and I know darned well I'm not at that two per bird level.

I have 55 rounds of TSS in 12 and 20, about 15 rounds of Hevi 13 in 12 gauge so I am good for a long long time. The only game I hunt with a gun is turkey everything else I use a bow. I still enjoy skeet shooting here and there so I am always on the lookout for those loads and they are hard to come by too.

I buy as much as I want, when I want it . I like to pattern and shoot turkey guns,I never use more than 2,maybe 3 shells total hunting in the spring (2 tom limit). But I pattern and enjoy shooting a few months prior to season and again a bit in the summer.

I need to add a few more to my collection as I have depleted a little the last month.

While I didn't plan it, over the years my buying a couple of boxes of turkey loads at the end of the season when Walmart was marking them down payed off. Our local Walmart doesn't even carry ammo now.
