Title: This is why I shoot Indian Creek and TSS
Post by: gophert on March 15, 2013, 11:46:30 PM
I just wanted to show two pattern comparisons with the IC .562 and .555.  This load with those chokes is so consistent it is crazy.  I just got the IC .562 and pretty much knew it would throw a very nice hunting pattern.

IC .555

Nice! I'm shooting a Indian creek .555 with the 1 7/16 tss load and need to open it up some. The .562 is a great hunting pattern. The .555 is nice if u wanna rip his head off lol

Yes I totally agree.  I have killed a number of birds with the .555 but was in search of a more even 20" pattern.  The .562 definitely is closer to that and is what I will be hunting with.  I'm thinking the IC .570 may be the perfect 250/250 hunting combo.

How did the .555 pattern with the H-13 #7'a and Fed HW #7's ? my Rem, with a 26" barrel didn't shoot very good with the ssx.550 and either of thos. I'm wondering if the longer barrel needs a more open choke?

My gun didn't like the SSX .550 either.  It would shoot 150 one shot then 120 the next.  That inconsistency drove me nuts.  The IC .555 shoots everything well.  Even though IC says not to shoot the Fed FC wad out of its chokes, the 20 ga FCW is much softer and my IC put up good numbers. (168 in 10").  The hevi was in the 140's at 10".  You should see even better with the 26" barrel.  I have a friend who shoots a IC .555 from a 26" barrel and with his hevishot #7 handload was getting in the 225 in 10".  I say all that to say that it is well worth the money and you won't be dissappointed.  Midway has them on sale now.

Shot my Franchii Affinity 20 using the IC .555 and the Hevi 7s. 26" barrel.  5 shots averaged between 170-180 in 10" @40. 173,174,176,181,183. One of the most consistant chokes I've ever used. Use the .665 in my 1187 12 and get consistent patterns as well.

Gophert, Do you have any info on how that shell will shoot with a youth model 870 and a PG570? I was wondering how the TSS did with a ported choke. By the way those are some great patterns!!

Thanks

I don't have first hand knowledge with that choke, but my guess is that it will be fantastic.  I have yet to see any choke shoot bad with TSS.  I like the .562 to .570 range for 20's with TSS, so my guess is that the PG .570 would be smokin!

Tungsten Super Shot.  It's much denser than hevi shot and therefore gives a better down range pattern (and up close) and hits harder.  This allows you to shoot smaller pellets with the same smack power as a larger pellet, but get so many more in the kill zone.  The patterns speak for themselves.  It is not sold by shell manufacturers and must be handloaded.

Great patterns Tim.

Have you ever patterned any of the Trulock or Carlson chokes?  I've got a full and turkey in Trulock and Turkey in the Carlson.  I bought both of them for a use on here, but I've always run the Remington Super Full on my builds and stopped there.

To the poster asking about Pure Gold chokes.  Not sure if it correlates to 20ga, but we got great TSS results in our 12's from Pure Gold and Indian Creek chokes.

I have not used Trulock or Carlson's, but have seen some crazy good TSS patterns with Carlson chokes.  I bought a used Hastings .566 to try this summer after season just for kicks.  I spend more money on stuff that doesn't do anything for me except feed a pattern obsession!

We sound a lot of alike.  I bought the Trulocks and Carlson when I saw them posted here.  I've taken them with me to pattern, but everytime I squeeze a round off thru the Remington Super Full I stop and call it good.  I mean...........how dead is dead?   ;D

Sandman, yes I was talking about the 20 gauge.. I have a PG 570 and have been searching for some RSF chokes. I called grabagun and ordered 2 RSF chokes and they told me they had them in stock so I ordered them. I got an email today stating they didnt have any, and it will be a few weeks before they get some. May look at ordering an IC or SumToy.

Where can you purchase TSS #9 shot ? Any info would be great. Thanks
