Good read. That one pictured with the red tube going to a cow horn is one I would very much like to get by this Spring turkey season, but the reality is I will be more likely to get it in time for my trip to OK in the Spring of 2021
Good Article and history
there is more about this call on youtube, it is titled----- Five [for] 5: an exquisite collection--
Mark Prudhomme runs the Jordan call for a bit

Sir-buyalot, Good luck on trying to buy any of that stuff-I don't think it's for sell. Maybe everything is for sale if the price is right. Just kidding around with the buyalot thing-I buy a lot too.

No, there is a place to buy them online, give me a few minutes, I have to go through a couple of folders on my desktop.
Here you go, just go a little down the page. http://www.turkeydog.org/classifieds.html
Ed Morris makes a fine Cow Horn Yelper as does Curtis Terrell, I have one from each of these fellas and they both sound fantastic.

I am not familiar with Ed Morris and I think I know of Curtis Terrell but not real well, I will look into them as well. Thanks. Edit: Realized Ed Morris is the gentleman in the link I provided. I sent Curtis Terrell a friend request on Facebook.
I have Curtis Terrell , he doesn't make them much anymore , because it's just so hard getting good quality cow horns he said ...

X2 .. your welcome
Great read. I heard on a podcast recently that a diaphragm turkey call was patented in the late 1860s - makes you wonder if any of the prototypes are still kicking around in someone's attic?
Thanks for sharing some turkey history.

Ray Eye would be a good one to talk to about that. He used to make his own with lead frames I believe and no tape. I think he still prefers them with just a frame.
Thanks for sharing I love history and I love turkey calls, great read!
Can you share the podcast please? Interested. Henry Bridges (who wrote The Woodmont Story) patented a diaphragm call in 1921, and ads can be seen for it as early as 1923, and is credited by some as being 'father' of the manufactured diaphragm call.
It was Steven Rinella's MeatEater podcast, pretty sure it was episode 187 but might have been 186. Within the first 20 minutes either way.
Great podcast-will check those episodes out....thanks!
Danny post quite a few of his calls on a Facebook group called Vintage turkey calls and literature collector. As the article describes, he has some of the most rare and valuable calls in his collection. He is very knowledgeable in the history of many callmakers and is a fine gentleman as well.
