Title: Anyone on central florida
Post by: Beards n bbq on March 17, 2019, 11:43:31 AM
Anyone hunting west central Florida? Lots of gobbles while scouting last week, dried up the past couple days. Stopped by check station and only one jake checked in, I know not everyone checks but only heard a couple shots fired. Is it the cold front or the rain we received yesterday

West Palm, didn't hear a cluck. No one killed any at the WMA I was at.

A few gobbles Saturday morning in St Augustine. Shot a nice gobbler and passed another that wouldn't leave. No gobbling this morning, but my son managed a young gobbler that came in quiet.

Yesterday heard one gobble four times. Today heard several, 3 maybe 4. Killed one mid morning. Hunted the same area as yesterday. Nice gobbler, 1 5/16 spurs, 10 1/2" beard. Talked to some other hunters in the same general area and most of them had about the same experience.
East of Ocala, west of Palm Coast.

Can't get pics resized to get under the 2000 limit. He was ugly after flopping in the swamp. As was I.

I'm in Clay County for a quota hunt tomorrow. Seeing birds very hennaed up. Hunted private this morning and heard two but they shut up after flydown.

I'm hunting west of Ocala and the birds were definitely less vocal over the weekend than they were last week when we were scouting.

We did connect on a couple birds Saturday and we've had some other action, but honestly much more/better gobbling between 10 and noon, than at first light.

It's a little cooler this morning than it's been the last couple days, so maybe that will get them going.

Very frustrating about this site. I have to send pics to the wife's phone for her to resize then return.  My buddy and I got a double yesterday morning near Avon Park.  Story and hopefully pics later. Congrats on yours.
