Getting ready for 2021 season, I outfitted my Bottomland 870 with a new scope. Turkey scopes are getting real hard to find, I have been searching for the right one for this gun. I like Leupold, especially the VX Series. They have a lifetime guarantee, crisp optics and great crosshair options. This is a 1x4 VX 2 with a Leupold Dot Reticle. This reticle is a crosshair that starts out heavy, and tapers thinner towards the middle to a perfect size dot which is great for zeroing in on the gobblers waddle/head. I used Burris 6 screw Tactical Rings, they handle the recoil on our heavy turkey loads. The field of view is 75 ft at 100 yards, thus has plenty of FOV for close turkey encounters. Since I started using scopes on my turkey guns, I am so used to that crosshair on the turkeys waddle, I can't go back to open sights. My eyes just are not the same as they were years ago. The scope is lightweight, not overbearing and will do the job. Look forward to the 2021 opener.
Be safe, be well.....
May you bust many longbeards with that work of art.

Looks great! I have been using a scope the last few seasons and really like it. I also miss using regular open sights, but like you, my eyes just can't focus on them as well as they used to. I have used red dots and like those as well, but i have that dang astigmatism that makes the dot appear distorted. Not a real problem at turkey hunting distances with a shotgun though, just put the misshapen red blob on the turkey head and shoot. The only open sights i still use is a truglo sight that has an optional ghost ring rear sight ring that i can still line up ok. Really enjoy the crisp sight picture with the scope though, plus the one i've been using has a 6" eye relief. so no worries about getting whacked with recoil!
Looks like a great combo! 870s and Mossberg 835s may have killed more turkeys than everything else combined.

Thanks my friend. I just have so much confidence using scopes with these tighter chokes. Our old eyes need the advantage, we also owe our turkeys a nice, clean humane harvest. Be safe, be well.....
Awesome combo!
Awesome rig. Leupold is second to none. Good luck with it!
All my turkey guns wear a scope!!

Thx, my eyes focus better on the old waddle with the scope....be safe my friend.....
Nice rig! I agree shotgun scopes are getting harder to find. Like you I watched and waited and ended up finding a Leupold VX I 1x4 with the HEAVY duplex reticle. I mounted it on my Benelli Nova 20ga. I will try it out this spring. Good hunting!

Great find. Good luck with your scope. You can't go wrong with Leupold, especially with their unconditional lifetime warranty...be safe
great looking setup, hope you have some luck with it this spring

Found it on eBay. Type in Leupold scopes, they should come up. If I see one, I will message you. Good luck....they are great scopes....
Tom.. Very nice set up. Just curious, did the receiver come tapped and drilled and ready for a scope from Remington, or did you have that work done.

Hi Greg, no it was not drilled and tapped. Had it done with 8-32 screws making it beefier for the harder loads. I love scopes, this one has a Leupold Dot Reticle, the cross hair starts out a bit thicker on outside, tapers thinner to the nice size dot in the center. Works out great......Be safe....
Nice!

Years ago we had a lot more choices for specialized gloss or matte finish low power fixed and variable shotgun scopes. Seems no one is making them anymore. Red dots have taken over. They are really popular now. Lots to chose from in that realm.

I use both red dots and scopes. I like the low power scopes, usually keep them at 2 power. They just help me focus better.....

Tom007, I do too. I have two with shotgun scopes and three with red dots. Both have pros and cons. I like having choices! Ha.

Amen my friend. I tend to use a red dot gun on rainy days. Easier to keep dry, less fogging chance. Like you said, options are good. Be safe, good luck this spring...
