Post by: RiverRoost on February 16, 2020, 04:34:32 PM
Any info comparing federal tss 8&10 blend vs the straight 9's? Mainly out of a Winchester

I would stick with the 9s. I've shot both and they will both get it done for sure, but my patterns with the 8-10 were noticeably more patchy with bigger gaps. This is out of a rem 870 26" barrel with Carlson .568 choke

I got a much more consistent pattern out of straight 9s than I did with 7-9 blend.

My friend has a sx3 20ga that I picked up a Carlson longbeard Xr .568 I'm going to try in his gun and hope for better results than the factory "longbeard edition" choke that came with it but I really want the straight 9's

Exactly my experience also.

I loaded my own 8x10 TSS and strait 9s. I'm shooting a youth model 870 20ga with a JEBS .555 choke. It shoots both great so I can't really recommend one or the other. The only thing I can say is that the 8s will hit harder and the small 10s will fill in the pattern. I use a trap shot to catch a lot of mine so it's easy to load and shoot to see whats working. Just my 2 cents.
