Title: Roll crimp question.
Post by: strum on March 29, 2020, 11:53:51 AM
Im going to start rolling my own 20 ga TSS after the season so Im gathering needed tools.
I see a few different typed/brands of crimpers out there .
Question is which one is the absolute best ?
I see no need to cheep out on this part .

For a newbie like myself I much prefer the hand rollers. I personally get a much clearer roll

Unless you are caught up in cosmetics, then it does not matter. If available I would buy the Precision Reloading one. Good cost and does great rolls. I could never get a pretty roll from the ballistic products one but I killed plenty of turkeys with those ugly rolls and got great patterns.

I should also add as a newbie if you are stuck on the type that require a drill, the GAEP worked best for me. Better than the Precision Reloading one. Neither did bad though

Thanks Guys. I plan on using a drill press. May even give a hand drill a try too .
But probably drill press. I can see a press should will give me the most repeatable crimp just because the pressure can be gauged.
This doesn't look like rocket science too me but I do want to produce loads I can be proud of.

I agree 100% , own both but reach for the Precision most every time in 20 ga. I like the BPI  double pin for 12 ga though.
