Made my mind up I want a trumpet. Never had any suction call. I only spring hunt but just wanting one with a good Yelp not real high pitched. Not wanting to spend a fortune since it's my first but want a decent and good sounding call. Thanks for any advice.
I'm thinking ~ gergg ~ on here
His real name is Greg
I have quite a few they work for me .......
BUT one thing in my experience is the gobbler comes in quite
He will respond as far as I can tell out too around 200yrds
** trumpets are a very good call **
They are great calls if you put in the time and will come in no different than any other call. But you have to be careful with movement when they are close. Good luck!
Go through posts and see who's calls are mentioned and why. A easy playing trumpet makes learning much easier. You do not have to spend a fortune on a good trumpet. A lot goes into playing a trumpet and it takes time. Good luck!

As a newbie to trumpets, I purchased one last year and killed my first long beard with it this past spring. My advice to you is to get one from one of the many reputable makers here on OG. I got mine from Anthony Ellis with AGE Calls but I understand he now has a waiting list. You might want to check on Ralph Permar's web sight, I think he has a few currently available. As noted earlier, you might want to contact Greg relative to what he has available. Just make sure you get a good, easy to play trumpet from a reputable maker and spend the time it takes to learn how to play it - you will not regret it.
Permar
Austy
Slaton
To name a few
The Permar .45 in delrin with the amber mouth piece is hard to beat. I have MANY trumpets by many of the top makers and it's about my favorite. Dang tough call too.
If you can come to Unicoi call makers show you can find lots of instruction and trumpets

Very nice! Smart purchase. What mouthpiece? A 4 will be easier to run than a 3, but you can work your way down.

I got 3 4 and 5 they sounded better to me.

I always preferred 3&4....liked 5 better than 2....for me anyway.
We'll see I'm ready to get it and start the process of learning it.

Can't go wrong with a Buice for lots of reasons, plus Billy is a great guy. Love Desert Ironwood trumpets, you got a good one. Lots of helpful people around here, holler if you ever get stuck figuring out how to play it.
Thanks everyone. I'll post it up when I get it.
Yup good choice
I practice and practice
I'm trying to pure sometimes I get it and I try duplicating again and it's NOT there
* GOOD LUCK * if all fails you won't have any problem selling

I am kind of jealous Billy has never played for me, I am going to request it next time.
REALLY. HE'S PLAYED QUITE A FEW FOR ME
I didn't have to ask either.
As we all know, there's no "magic" call, but an air operated yelper (wingbone, Jordan or trumpet) probably comes the closest. Something about them that "some" turkeys just can't resist. Good luck.

That is a great suggestion for a hunting trumpet! It's one of my go to trumpet's and easy to play,

Sharp looking trumpet and a very good one to start on.
nothing to worry about when learning, just practice it like any musical instrument,
15-20 minutes a day is better than 1 hour every 5 days
start with Del Crows "savduck" and Marlin Watkins instructional's on you-tube, there are other ones also listed in previous threads
