Hello all,
My current favorite call is my Lonnie Sneed Hot Hen slate. However, I find myself getting addicted to calls like this. Are there any others that are this quality and in the same price range? I think I paid like $35 with his striker. I have tried much more expensive calls at hunting shows and shops but they just don't seem to sound as good.
Any help and advice is appreciated
Does he have an account here?
I second genesturkeycalls...great sounding calls for the price...cherry slate and purple heart glass
Mike Yinglings also :)
I make an awesome slate for $35 and an incredible aluminum for $40.

For some reason I cant hear your sound files on my computer very well. The one on your website sounded pretty good though. The toms in my area for whatever reason seem to like a little more rasp to their lady friends.
Are you saying that my call needs more rasp for your area or were you saying just in general?
I'm not sure why the links don't work for you... they all worked for me.
If you are looking for a call with more rasp, listen to my anodized aluminum call... it's extremely raspy. If you can't open that sound file, let me know and I can play it for you over the phone.

I can play them but I can barely hear them. I'm going to charge the wife's laptop and we if that's any better.

For whatever reason they sound much better on the laptop. The last one (walnut/aluminum I believe) sounds great. Is there a wait on your calls at the moment? I would have to wait till Friday due to Christmas shopping anyway.
I can have one made in a couple of weeks.
I just made you a louder sound file... it was pitch black outside, that shows how easy this call is to run.

If your looking for a very inexpensive box call that sounds good for only about $25
On eBay regularly there are box calls offered up by Daryll Helm
I have bought a couple for around $20 plus $5 shipping. The last one I bought was spalted sycamore with a cherry lid and ebony inlays,,and it was a nice little call with a pretty good medium to young hen sound and not bad to look at. No these are not on the level of quality like the $100 plus ones like SS or Harwell,Paul etc. But for $25 they are much better quality then a store bought over the counter one, I won't hesitate to take mine if it looks like a messy day and I don't want to bring my pricy boxes out in the elements.
Try one on eBay their a nice value.
