Just purchased the Savage 220 turkey, this is my first 20 gauge any recommendations has far has a 3" shell for it.

I know APEX are really good but what about Browning, Federal TSS etc. I know Nitro are supposed to be good but I did read where they were having some quality control issues.

  Thanks for the advice guys.

If you are in a state that will allow you to use #9s, try them first. We use them in 870s and once you get the right choke, they throw an awesome pattern....

Sorry just realized I posted in the 12 gauge instead of 20 gauge forum.

I think you will be happy with TSS 9's

The only way to know what shoots well in your setup is to pattern. You may get lucky on your first couple of tries or it may take a few more to find that sweet combo. Hand loading is a good way to test several different recipes. Only issue these days is that factory ammo can be scarce and so can the required reloading components. I think would look for what ammo I can find and try to work out a decent pattern between your gun and choke.

By the way 3 inch shells are not required in shooting TSS as 2 3/4 work just as well due to the density of TSS.
Everyone wants to be successful - some just need help.

Oh I am good to go now I am shooting Apex 3" #9 with an Indian Creek .562 choke. I have all three of my.guns patterned with Apex #9 TSS. My Mossberg 835 and 535.
