Looks more grayish in that pic but it is actually on the purple side

Anyone else gotten a purple slate recently? I had an impulse buy on one over the weekend, not too sure what to expect. I've owned several grey slates over the years, but never had any that wowed me. I know it's probably the surface that's flopped the most birds over the years, I've just always liked the more livelier sounding surfaces.

I have his purple slate in a cherry pot, great call!

I got the purple slate call today and I'm impressed with it. It's got a higher pitch and less mellow sounding than the slate sound I've become accustomed to from grey slate. Can run it loud like glass or soft like slate, seems like it will be a versatile call.

Purple to me is good but definitely has a glass sound to it. I think it runs smoother overall because slate tends to be more "forgiving" if you make a mistake. It depends a bit on the pot material too. Having talked to a builder on it, if you were to put it into a harder wood, it'll run much higher pitched. Softer woods will tone it down some.
