Guys it may just be me... but i have to ask. Last few yrs seems like i need to carry water or soemthing?

Dry mouth hurts trumpet playing. If you watch Zach Farmer he always has a piece of candy in his mouth. Copenhagen keeps my mouth from getting dry.

Thats a good idea actually. Seems like the older i get , last few yrs early morning i go to yelp and cant get that high front ckear note. And its scratchy at times. Mid morning is perfect. Thanks

Another issue folks don't often consider is drinking coffee before running a trumpet. It will make your mouth drier than if you don't. The hard candy surely helps.

This is funny, but it's true. After running air calls for a LOOONNNNGGGG time, it has happened to me also. The wet/ dry mouth is definitely a factor. I have also found that your lips can be a little "tired". Doing little lip exercises like puckering up and smacking your lips together as well as other actions with your lips can help "wake" them up before your hunt. Do this while you are still in your truck and by all means, don't let anyone see you, lol!!!

Thaaaaank you im a have to try something lol. EZ i know what ya mean by "waking" them up!

I always run my trumpet in the truck before heading out in the morning, seems to help a bit.

besides the water bottles I carry, I also carry a little 3oz  Mckormicks vanilla bottles with water in it.

If I start going dry while working a gobbler it's enough to wet your mouth, I keep it in a pocket I can get to with little movement.

I also drink very little coffee like Doc mentioned to avoid dry mouth.

I struggle to but getting better by practicing in the morning. I am not going to give up my coffee. I find that I need more of my lips on the call early morning so I move my lipstop down a little. I can also make a conscious effort to put more pressure on my lips and power through it

I find tea is even worse than coffee myself.

Every year my lips and mouth get dryer in the morning. I have tried the tricks, none  work. Asked the M.D., he offered the suggestions of cutting back on coffee consumption.  Again, no relief. Possibly back to box and pot calls full time.

Dry mouth definitely affects a trumpet. Dry, cool lips can as well. I always lick both lips and wiggle them around, pucker in and out a few times, etc. I try to "loosen them up" so to speak. I also started making myself practice first thing in the morning when I get up for work. That helped more than anything.
