i know the longbeard xr magnum  is 1050 fps as opposed to the regular longbeard xr is 1200 fps. Just curious what the velocity difference is at say 40 yards? anybody ever chrono'ed or know of any info regarding this?

Not sure of velocity, but the faster it is at the start the faster round pellets shed velocity. The difference won't be near as dramatic at 40 yards as it out the barrel.

Depends on the shot size, but I ran the numbers for the middle size in LBs, size 5..

MV 1200 / Vel @ 40 yds 690
MV 1050 / Vel @ 40 yds 641

So 150 fps advantage @ the muzzle is down to 49 fps @ 40 yds

How much extra penetration in Ballistic gel does the extra 49 fps at 40Yds translate to?

How much extra penetration in Ballistic gel does the extra 49 fps at 40Yds translate to?

Not enough to be significant, possibly not any.  Faster doesn't always mean more penetration.

1.89" @ 1200 fps MV @ 40 yds
1.71" @ 1050 fps MV @ 40 yds

I agree with your first statement that the difference in penetration is not significant. I disagree with the second statement that faster doesn't always mean more penetration. With non deforming projectiles (CP hard  lead alloy pellets or FMJ rifle bullets), more velocity always yields more penetration. That is perhaps not true for very soft lead pellets that deform more at higher velocity and is certainly the case with some soft rifle bullets that expand to larger frontal diameter (which inhibits penetration) when driven at higher velocity.

I don't believe that's correct.   The same size and weight pellet should lose velocity any quicker than the same pellet started at a slower speed.

It is absolutely correct. In the above example, the pellet started at 1200 fps loses 510 fps over 40 yds while the same pellet started at 1050 fps only loses 409 fps.
