Spring Creek Calls

Had an interesting conversation with another callmaker at breakfast during Turkey Trot. We both commented on good hatches in our area and his take on it was the nest predators (skunks, coons, possums) had plenty of easy food from the cicada hatch, which was prolific in both our states, and didn't have to roam to find a meal or a nest. Makes sense to me, how about you?

Yes Mike I have heard that too.  Its written in one of my collection of turkey books but can't remember which one.  Might have been Herb McClure.

Gobble!

It does make sense, save energy and go after the easier prey. I've not seen a large cicada hatch in a very long time in western MD.

We have had some pretty good hatches of those cicada's lately ...in our state ..

Great for the broods also. High protein diet for growing poults.
