Shooting TSS

Thinking I'm going to start shooting TSS through my SP-10 next season. I know I don't NEED to, since I keep my shooting to 40-ish yards and in. But I do believe in maximizing the lethality of my weapon. I've already got a TruLock tube that's 680. I have not decided what size to go with, but leaning towards 7.5 or 8. I've written to Apex to see if I can get a sample of two shells in each, haven't heard back yet.

Well, fellow 10 gauge fans, what are your thoughts? Are there any downsides to using TSS besides the cost? Is there anybody else out there besides Apex making TSS in 10?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah I have really wanted to get some just to see the numbers.  I don't see any downside, other than cost and make sure you make a good headshot.  A buddy's son killed a bird this year with a .410 with apex and he shot a bit low and he said he picked shot out of the breast meat for a long time.  :OGturkeyhead:

Nitro co sells its. I use there 2 5/8 load of 8 @9s.

You may find that a .680 choke is too tight for 7 and 8 shot. 9 shot would probably be more suited for that much constriction but the only way to know is to shoot one.

Thanks all for the feedback!

Deadbuck suggested the choke might be too tight for 7 or 8 shot. So... how would I know that when shooting? What does a pattern look like (at 40 yeards) when the choke is too tight? Just too tight a circle? Inconsistent POI or uneven patters?

Shooting TSS in my 10ga I use a .710 Indian creek with #8s I was putting 410 hits in the 10" and only like 15 pellets outside of the 20" circle. No down side to tss other than the cost. I too think a .680 would give you a blown pattern.

I get 450+ with Nitro Ammo 7.5x9

with only 635 pellets in a 2 1/2 oz load of TSS8 you are getting 65% of total pellets in 10". I think that is the best I have ever heard of.

Yes it is like 65% in the 10" the rest was in the 20" except for  17 pellets. I was like    this is going to put a hurt on a bird. It hits birds with extreme force!
