Hey all, I don't post much but I do appreciate the knowledge on this forum.

I've been kicking around the idea of a 20 gauge and I like that the SX3 turkey model has a cantilever barrel. The idea of having an optic for turkey hunting that stays with the barrel rather than the receiver is attractive to me, would seem to make it easier to serve multiple purposes. I kind of hate the camo finish and would prefer to just buy a standard SX3 and then purchase the cantilever barrel but I don't think it's available that way so here I am trying to talk myself in or out of this idea.

Anyways, I guess I'm just curious if anybody has any experience with these and what your feelings are towards them.

Thanks!

Buckrub

I have one and love it !!!

Do you have a standard bird barrel for it as well or do you keep it set up as a dedicated turkey rig?

Dedicated Turkey Gun !!

Thanks for the reply.

I think if I get on I'd like to get a bird barrel for it too, would make it much more versatile.

What kind of patterns are you getting with it? What do you think is the realistic range with it?

I have the X3 long beard in 20ga, gun shoots hand loaded  TSS well through the factory and a Trurlock .585. Have a Indian Creek .555 that is a bit tight at 40yds for me. And the gun requires an optic due to the factory sights being terrible. Also it is nice to have the optic staying with the barrel when it  time for a cleaning.  Gun is a tad bit heavier than my Weatherby sa-459 20.

Thanks for the response! The long beard model is the pistol grip version, correct?

I have a sx3 nwtf cantilever 20ga, I'm running a mad max .565 vortex low mounts and a 1.25x4 leupold mark AR on it love the gun. I was running a pure gold .555 an nitro hevi shot #7s I was getting 250 with that set up at 40yds. My current rig with the mad max gets me 330+ with #9s.

You guys are going to talk me into buying one!

I have a buddy who keeps telling me that 20's are made for women and children, almost want to get one just to show him up with it.

I have one and it has the cantalever barrel on it. I love it so much that my m2 benelli is now a back up.

I got mine cause my "dedicated" Benelli Nova .12ga. is getting too heavy for my old self to tote. I contacted, both, Winchester and Briley about the choke constriction and Briley said the choke is .540 in the .20 ga.
That's way too tight for my liking and my patterns @30 yds. weren't that impressive. I decided to give an ICBDS @.555 a try. I'll get that on paper as soon as it's delivered. I'm using LBxr's in #5 & #6 which the Briley choke was designed for.  Go figure, huh ?  In fact the Briley Rep. said the 12 ga. choke is at .640. He said that's what Win. claimed would be best in each shotgun !!!

The cantilever barrel is what interests me most, almost impossible to find a bird barrel in that configuration for any other make/model. I do wish it was available in all black instead of camo though.

The best price I've been able to find on one of these was about $840 plus shipping and transfer so figure about $900 all said and done. Does that seem like a decent price? Should I keep looking?
