If it wasn't already known, Federal has discontinued their 10 gauge Heavyweight Turkey #7 shells (PHT101F 7). I recently noticed they were not offered on Federal's website and emailed them to ask about it. Federal responded that those shells have been discontinued and that presently do not offer any 10 gauge shells with Heavyweight shot.

For those who might want to stock-up, I found them for only $14.99/box at Rogers Sporting Goods (https://www.rogerssportinggoods.com/)

Anybody know why this happened? Is this a sign that companies aren't bothering with high quality shells for 10 gauge turkey hunters anymore?

It's not just 10 gauge they have discontinued it in all gauges as far as I know. They rolled out their new tss shells this past Spring which is its replacement. At $15 a box that's a steal. I'll get a few boxes for myself thanks for the heads up.

What's got me curious (concerned?) is that Federal doesn't seem to be offering their new TSS shells in 10 gauge. I see them in 12, 20 & .410, but all I see for 10 gauge is copper-plated lead pellets. Would be a bummer if this was a sign that Heavyweight/TSS 10 gauge shells are falling out of favor with manufacturers.

If they do start selling them in 10 gauge I bet they will be $15 per shell!

Just picked up 2 ea of #6 and #7. Will see how it does against the mag blends.
Got a kicks .690 to try out with each as well for the sp-10 from several recommendations here.

Kicks GT 690 is a ported choke designed to slow the wad.  I have heard the federal flight control wad is not recommended for use with a ported choke with a wad stopper or wad speed reducer.

OK

Was looking on some Hunting forums and it was mentioned that it is
recommended that Flight Control loads should not be used with ported
barrels or ported choke tubes. Wondering if this is so?

Thanks

I have seen them work in Ported and Unported bbls.It will vary depending
on the firearm.forcing cone.choke system.

Optimal results were in non ported of .665-.670 restriction and they
definitely should not have a wad stopper feature.

I thought the new FC wads were redesigned for ported chokes. The older ammo may not be

Looking at the box, the Heavyweight 15g shells that I just received from Rogers say they have the "FLIGHTCONTROL" wad.  The wad Federal came up with for ported chokes is the "FLIGHTCONTROL FLEX WAD" which is different.

I've shot the Federal HW w/ the flitecontrol wad w/ a Kick's .690 GT for several years w/ no apparent problems and really nice even 20" patterns.  It is my go to combo.

That's my plan as well with the Kicks GT .690
Picked up a few boxes of 6s too.

The Kicks shot decent in my NEF 10.  At different times, I have played with the stock extra full which I believe is .720, the Kicks .690, a Rhino .680 and recently a SumToy .695.

So far, none of them come close to the Rhino.  My best friend has the same gun and has shot a Rhino, Kicks and now, Indian Creek out of his.  The Indian Creek has done the best in his.  But, for some reason he is getting about 50 less pellets in an 8 inch ring at 40.

Thanks Brother I couldn't find these anywhere just order 4 boxes. I see Federal is going all in on the TSS line and Savage is building a single shot 410 and a 20 I think for just that shell. Maybe they will come back to the 10 gauge. I usually don't get to shoot them but twice a year at Turkeys that's all I can kill here in Florida per season. I haven't had one ever walk away from one shot yet. The guy I talked to at Rodgers said they bought all Federal had. Thanks again!

My beard is grey and my spurs short and I roost on the ground but I still gobble in the Spring!

The heavyweights and the kicks 690 make a great combination, I was the one to discover it back in the day. Got rid of my 10 gauge a couple years back but wish I'd kept it. Cut about 45 boxes of heavyweight 7s open and robbed the shot for reloading
