Lucked into an 870 compact 20 ga with a 21" barrel that I couldn't pass up.   Now I need some advice on a good choke tube.  Will be shooting 3" lead loads like Federal 6s w flite control wads (have on hand) or would like to try Longbeard 6s.  Looking at Carlsons 555 and 568 but haven't picked anything up yet.  What chokes stand out for this set up?  Probably leaning non ported.  Thanks

Have H.S. Strut Undertaker chokes on both my 870s. 21" & 26" Shooting 3" federal shells #5s.
119 in 10 inch at 35 yards with 21" barrel.

Get a Sumtoy, or Wright's Swarm would be my recommendation.

Thanks for the input.  I picked up a 570 tightwad cheap for now. That swarm sounds like a good one I will have to check out.

I have the same gun and I'd say with #6 shot you'd be pleased with a Remington Super Full Turkey choke. I lucked into a box of #6 LB's yesterday and I'm headed out now to pattern. I've went thru a LOT of chokes and the RSFT and the Trulok Heavy 7 are still here. Gonna try the 6's in both just chokes at 40yds. With the 7's no more and the TSS #7's impossible to find and grossly over priced when you do I'm hoping the LB 6's do good.

Sumtoy or Indian Creek is what I'd look into.  Been extremely pleased with these in the 870.

At last count, I have about six or seven chokes for my 11-87 20 gauge. Factory full and mod. Super full factory .572 dia.., primos ported jelly head .570 dia,. 2 carlson, the hw7, 560 dia., and the .568 dia., longbeard, my mistake, the hw7 is a trulock choke. The other carlson choke is a .575 dia. And another .575 dia choke which I can't remember the name of. The only two that I would not hunt with is the carlson non ported .575 dia. And the no name non ported .575 dia. Choke. The other chokes did give good patterns at 40 yards with the right shells. The rem. super full, the primos jelly head, the hw7 trulok, the carlson longbeard are great chokes with what shell they were made for. By the way the barrel is a 21 inch. This next idea is after all this, I think might be a sum toy .562 dia. Or a hastings .562 dia as the perfect choke for longbeard shells. The longbeard carlson choke throws a great 12-15 inch pattern with number five shot. As you know the federal hw7 is no longer made. I am not a TSS fan so that leaves only the longbeards or federal grand slams, but good luck on finding the grand slams.       Buford

okay, I did some shooting. mostly pistols but I did shoot the 870 20ga, 21"er with the Long Beard #6's. all 3 shots were at 40yds on a bench off a sand bag. the first two shots I had a ShurShot stock on. I had a hard time getting down and comfortable for a clear sight picture but I got it done. for the last shot I put the standard stock back on. all 3 shots were with a clean cold barrel.

1st shot Remington Super Full Turkey choke 133 in the 10" at 40yds (ShurShot stock)

2nd shot TruLock Heavy 7 choke 138 in the 10" at 40yds (ShurShot stock)

3rd shot TruLock Heavy 7 choke 155 in the 10" at 40yds (standard synthetic stock)

the numbers are good for #6 shot in a 20ga at 40yds but the patterns weren't as even as the HW #7's anyway, I hope this is helpful. oh yeah' I just got finished shimming the ShurShot stock so it's WAAAY better now.

Good numbers,  thanks for the info all.  Primos choke is on the way, may try another too.

Got a 570 tightwad and shot in the 120s with flitecontrol 1 5/16 oz 6s at 30 yards.  Got some 1000 fps Longbeard 6s today and shooting 40 yds I'm getting about the same numbers but about 5 or 6" higher poi....in a good pattern. Taking youths Saturday,  aim for the wattles!

Double B: is your federal 6s the new grand slams with the new flight control wad? The federal grand slams can't be found in my area. Only thing I have found is the winchester longbeards number 5 shot. No 6s. The 5s shoot good in my 21 inch barrel with the carlson longbeard choke with the .568 dia. It shoots a nice even pattern with no holes at 40 yards. 110 in a ten inch circle. Total in a fifteen inch circle is 140. Hope you kill one come open day. The super full remington  or just the full choke might be good for a youngster. My grandson will hunt the first day and I got to decide what choke to use for him.      Buford

Looks like the old flitecontrol wad, listed as mag shok 1185 fps.   Both Fed and Win loads are ok to hunt with.  Was hoping for better but this will do just fine at 30 to 35.  I tried to find a Carlsons 568 but they are scarce right now.  Good luck out there, I can't wait.

I have the youth 870 W/21" barrel. I am shooting longbeard #6 W/Carlson's.568  I can shoot a very good pattern out to 40+yd

Cleaned up after Saturday's snowy youth season, no luck but had a good time. With Anobody custom sling, dead ringer sights and a primos tightwad choke. Great lightweight carrying rig.
