The eclipse is supposed to be near 95% coverage here in central NC.  I'm kind of looking forward to it.  I bought some glasses a few weeks ago.  Though, Tuesday night 8-22-17 is going to be a new moon and I plan on doing some night-time top water bass fishing, and I'm looking forward to that more.

Luck counts, good or bad.

Here in Southern Illinois, I'm about an hour north of where it will cross into Kentucky via the Ohio River. I'll be making the one-hour drive south to a spot out in the country where I've hunted previously. It's supposed to be crazy in the Carbondale/Marion area. FYI...On April 8, 2024, another solar eclipse will be coming through this same area as it passes from Mexico to Maine, once again being most notable in the Carbondale/Marion area. (If you don't have the proper solar glasses, go to YouTube and investigate making a pinhole-type observation tube.)

This will be my second solar eclipse.  Had a partial when I was a kid.  Remember it well.  Dark enough that the birds and other animals went night, night.  I'll be traveling, so I hope the idiots on the road don't pull off or slow down to view it.

Wingbone

This will be my second as well. I'm in the path of totality here in Tennessee and my company has ordered us glasses and T-shirts for the event. So, I kind of feel bad that I'm not as excited as everyone else.

Hey wingbone, we must be close. I'm in middle Tennessee and in the line of totality also. Our plant also ordered glasses and tee shifts and was going to give us 30 mins viewing time. But after the scare of faulty glasses, they decided that we'd close at lunch. I suppose that way they're not liable for eye damage. Schools in the area are also closed.

I heard they cancelled it.

I asked my young, whipper-snapper boss if it would be appropriate to wear one of my Pink Floyd shirts to work on Monday...he didn't get it....
Mine don't fit anymore but was singing Brain damage all day long.   :TooFunny:

I taped an 11 and 4 welding filter together.  Worked great.  Wish I'd have traveled a couple hours south.  We had about 90% here.
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

Even though it was cloudy, the sun sort of peaked through minutes before totality and I got a few pictures but unfortunately covered it back up during totality.  It was still an incredible and awe inspiring experience that gave me chills.

My family and I ended up just south of Goreville, IL, where around 100+ of us found a cemetery with an unobstructed view of the sky. While there were some giant clouds that frequented our over head, it was perfectly clear during the total eclipse with the corona making a brilliant display followed by the diamond ring effect. While it did get darker, it wasn't as dark as I'd thought it would be. Fortunately, I knew the back roads the 60+ miles back home as the regular two-lane roads were plugged and moving slowly. Even back home, there was someone directing traffic as many out-of-state vehicles made their way to the interstate just north of here.  I understand that the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse will cross this area again. I hope to be there.

I wondered this exact same thing!!!!  Me and The Boss took the poults to Nashville....totality was amazing....
the drive home was also as a normal 5-5 1/2 hour drive took us 9 due to traffic.  Really awesome experience!

Here was the best eclipse that I seen.....

I firmly believe that the eclipse was a direct sign from God. I believe that it was a sign of either The Rapture being close ( which I prayed it was that), or a sign of coming wrath on the US (which I prayed it wasn't). As some of the tv reporters that were in different places along the line of totality were talking about the clouds covering the sun beforehand, then suddenly the clouds cleared. They were saying how lucky that was, while I was thinking are you kidding me? God's hands parted those clouds so everyone across the Nation could see it on tv. He gives us signs thru the moon, sun and stars. If you don't believe that, you better open up the KJV Bible and do some reading.

You do understand that eclipses have been happening for ever, right?  An event that was known about for many years. And the clouds didn't clear every where. If the god is gonna send a sign, pretty sure it ain't gonna be through a natural occurrence that has been on the schedule for years.

Wow.  Just wow.  Try just sitting back and enjoy the wonder of the cosmos, instead of thinking it's the end of the world
