New--- 2nd sound clip below, I re-tuned calls #1 & #3....Hey guys, a little off-season fun here....So I made some box calls for my brothers and father and was messing with them out in the woods today, I recorded each of them and was curious what your opinion is of them. I tried to make the three sound very different, changing lids completely changes their tone too. I am a complete beginner at making box calls, and far from good at running them.

They are played in the following order.
1)Black Limba with Snakewood lid
2)Black Limba/Ebony/Mahogany-3 piece-(Soundboard is Black Limba) with Macassar Ebony lid
3)Teak/Ebony/Mahogany-3 piece-(Teak Soundboard) with Bloodwood lid (VERY raspy)

And here is the 2nd recording after trying to re-tune #1 & #3 a little higher pitched. They are played in the same order, please let me know what you think now....your favorite and how the re-tuning turned out.

They sound great especially number 2

yelpy

I like #3 the best but they all sound pretty darn good. Great job on tuning them!!

It is always interesting to record calls in the woods as the nuances heard up close seem to disappear. While playing these calls in person I prefer #1, recorded I am not sure. In person #2 seemed REALLY bright, recorded sounds good, #3 sounds not as raspy in person as it does recorded. Then if I change the lids it all changes again....lol.....fun to build and tune them, even though I just don't like to hunt with them.

:icon_thumright: #2 is my favorite

Yep

Interesting, it is not too difficult to brighten the others up a bit, I may do that and make another recording to see if we can hear the differences.

They all sound pretty dang good even before the tune up. I would have liked to have heard the yelping carry on a little longer so I could tell better, but I think I like number 3 after the tune up the best.

They are all in the hands of my brothers/dad now, no more testing...lol...I do have a tendency to call less than most while hunting, guess it transfers to these recordings too. I had fun messing with these, I will build some more when time permits, I did learn a lot so the next batch should be easier to build/tune.
