Great buy on an old school 835
February 11, 2013, 11:14:13 PM
I have been working on my stepson to get him interested in turkey hunting (he's 29) and I found a nice older 835 , 24" non ported , camo model he ended up buying today with several chokes (no good turkey chokes though) , a nice case, sling and a few 3.5 loads for $ 225.
This 835 has an older style camo and a ribbed (corncob) style forend....any of you guys have an idea how old it would be?

Good find.
Your looking at 1987 to probably 1990.

Thanks for the info. I have a 2010 model 24" ported camo, but I kind of like the looks of this older one. Can't wait to deep clean/ polish it and get it running for turkeys for him.

Camo like original real tree? Prob what we consider first gen. 835. I prefer the triggers to these models over the newer ones. Just a preference I guess, but the first models had practicaly no take up.

I got the gun you describe in 1995 for Christmas. Turkey killer I wish I still had.

If this is the one, early 90's. You got him a good one.

Thanks for the links and photos...yep that is what it looks like. I'd post a picture but the gun is with my stepson Tyler four hours away from me. Good info on the trigger...I will compare to my newer one.
I can't wait to see his reaction this spring after he takes his first tom with it.

I have one of the first 835's and it's a turkey killer for sure. Pattern's great with Winchester HV 3.5 2 oz 5 shot.
