Need some help with this one. These shot great out of my 690 jelly head original but this pattern sucks. Would this be a case of over constriction or maybe just a bad shell? Anyone else had success with this combo?
Shot at 40 yards

I'm an 835 owner and Love this gun.  I started with the 835 back in 2009.  I shoot 3 1/2" Hevi 13 7's through a .670 Pure Gold choke and it is LIGHTS OUT.  The 835 loves chokes in the .670 to .676 range.  Some of the chokes that do well are the Pure Gold, Indian Creek, Sumtoy and Stardot to name a few.  With that being said, Longbeards, Hevi 13 and TSS shoot really well in these chokes.  Longbeard #5 and #6 should shoot really well.  Since you have a GREAT pattern with TSS and the IC, I would say you have a shell issue.  I haven't shot the Longbeards but most people had GREAT success with the early offerings.  The lastest versions of Longbeards have been hit and miss, mostly miss from what I hear.  Hope this helps.

Borrowed a 3 in 1 7/8 #6 from a buddy and got a dramatically different result but I still don't know if it's too much constriction for that 2 1/8 oz load or if it's the 4 year old shell I just had lying around.

It wouldn't be an issue except in going up to new England next month and won't be allowed to shoot my normal setup so I figured I would shoot the full box of long beards I have left over from a few years ago

The birchwood target itself looks like a weak .410 pattern, so I can see why you are taken back to know that this is a 3.5 12-gauge pattern. Couple of things, I had great luck shooting longbeards out of a regular 3 inch chamber, but I have heard of plenty of folks getting crazy patterns, with longbeards. Almost like they either love them or totally hate the pattern they throw.

We know that the IC .675 is a winner, and your gun has shot well in the past setups from what you said, so I think it is the shell and that particular payload. But looking at your number six pattern with a 3" shell, I think that is huntable for a short trip to New England. 163 in the ten will kill anything at 40 yards, and if you can site your gun in to hit at the base of his wattles, you seem to have a good bit running high (based on the pattern posted) just outside of your ten circle that would then eat him up in his head and make that load even more formidable.
