Got a few new JLH strikers in the mail today from Jeff which inevitably meant me dragging out different pots to see what each wood sounded best on. Also meant I started running different slates side by side, different crystals side by side, etc. and that made me think it might be fun to see which maker y'all'd pick for each surface if you could just have one. Here's my current picks:

Gray Slate: Paul Platz cherry pot

Colored Slate (Green, Red, Purple): Larry Gesser green slate cocobola pot

Glass: Clay Townsend osage pot or Brad Roberts bronzed glass zebrawood pot

Crystal: David Halloran Metal Mouth II

Ceramic: Stumpy walnut pot

Aluminum: Lonzo yellowheart pot

Copper: Wendell Rye 3" osage pot

Titanium: N/A, don't have one yet

Brass: Mike Yingling 3" (I think it's a flamed ash? pot)

This will be interesting even if I can`t participate because I`ve never had multiple pots of the same surfaces to compare. Just one each of several surfaces.

First off congrats on some good strikers.

2nd. Glad I am not the only one that does this everytime I get a new call or striker. Thought is was developing some form of OCD.

Thanks for the answers thus far. Out of three groups of answers we've got overlap on Platz slates, Halloran crystals (both specifically the Metal Mouth II), Stumpy ceramics, and Wendell Rye coppers. Be interesting to see more answers.

I will just list my favorite builders of my pot calls in no particular order : Mark Cornelius, Larry Buster Halford, Brad Roberts, Lonnie Sneed, James Witmer, TJ Johnson, David Halloran, Clay Townsend, Jim Shilley and Roger Parks. All of these builders in my opinion build outstanding pot's in different playing surfaces and wood, with each of them have some that are very special and unique sounding playing surfaces.

I have a lot of pots and there's two I love in particular. The Clay Townsend Glass Osage is a winner.

Also (and I don't think this will be mentioned), but I have a aluminum call in a corian pot from Al Holbert. Think he calls it a Sidekick but it's aluminum over glass in a tiny corian pot. Thing absolutely sings

Great answers. Great post. Nobody mentioned Cody so far. I have one of the original Spec Ones from 1994. It is a Slate, it is one of my favorites. It has an awesome sound, I myself under rate it. It truly is a fantastic sounding slate.....

I am also kind of surprised that the old spec 1s/world class haven't gotten any mentions. I have a '93 Cody World Class slate that has a permanent spot in my vest.
